Why World Languages Education? | Why Our Program?
- With a growing number of English language learners in Rhode Island schools and increased interest among many native English speakers to learn a second language, multilingual teachers are in high demand.
- Our students choose one of three concentrations: French, Portuguese and/or Spanish.
- Upon completion of our program, our students are eligible for full certification to teach world languages education in all grades (pre-K-12) in Rhode Island.
- Along with coursework, our students hone their teaching skills through multiple field placements in K-12 and community-based settings.
- Topics covered in the include: educational psychology, linguistics, applied grammar, special education, teaching emergent bilinguals and student teaching.
Our world languages education majors are encouraged to study abroad for a semester. Our Shinn Study Abroad Fund offers generous financial support to do so.
