Employee Assistance Program
NOTICE: Effective June 1, 2021, administration of the State’s employee assistance program (EAP) transitioned from Optum to Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island (BCBSRI). The BCBSRI EAP is administered in conjunction with Beacon Health Options (Beacon), using their “Beacon Wellbeing” platform.
What is the EAP?
The State’s EAP is a completely free benefit that’s available to employees and their immediate family members. It provides information, referrals, and support to help you reach personal goals and bounce back from hardships. EAP experts are available for support with topics such as:
- Marital and family concerns
- Stress management
- Financial planning and legal issues
- Managing anxiety and depression
- Workplace stress
- Child and adult care issues
- Relationship issues
- Substance use concerns

How can I access the EAP?
You can reach the EAP 24 hours a day, seven days a week by phone or online:
- Substance use concerns
- Phone: Call the BCBSRI CARE Team at 866-987-3705 or 401-429-2104, and select the EAP option to reach a Beacon Employee Workplace Counsellor
- Online: Visit the to browse the support topics and/or schedule a counseling appointment. Use the attached “Guide to Beacon Wellbeing” for detailed instructions on using the online platform.
