Scholars at the 24th Annual University of Maryland National Conference for McNair Scholars and Undergraduate Research

The McNair Scholars Program provides guidance and resources to junior year ΞΆΓάΘ¦ students who need support in pursuing a graduate or PhD program. Eligible applicants are first-generation students or students that come from traditionally underrepresented groups in graduate education.

Dr. Ronald Erwin McNair was an accomplished physicist who overcame poverty and racism to become the second African American astronaut.

Program Summary

McNair Scholars work alongside experienced faculty mentors who will guide them through hands-on research projects and internships that ignite their passion and sharpen their skills. However, the McNair Scholars Program is more than just research; it is a community of like-minded peers who support and inspire each other. 

Key Take-Away

The ultimate goal is to empower students to earn their graduate degree. McNair is here to bridge the gap, to make sure students’ unique voices and potential are recognized in academia.
